Hummingbirds were zipping around during last week's work party. One even landed on a Cascara. It tilted it's head, observing us. We continue to lower ground level in response to the drought.

   

Lowering the ground level

Our restoration strategy is to remove the top level of nutrient rich soil to get to the peat at the water level. This summer,  the water line is particularly low.

Our bog is fragrant with the scent of labrador tea.

Water levels are dropping this summer. This is normal but this year, the water table is measured to be a historical low. CBRG monitors the water table weekly.

> We removed most the vegetatian last Friday from our holding area into a large metal bin thanks to Susan Chung and the 32 volunteers from Gladstone High and some of our regular volunteers. The remainder was removed last Saturday by fourteen volunteers made up of our regular volunteers and several from Kitsilano High.

> We can now start to fill up our holding area for the next dump of vegetation.

> It looks like nice weather will great us again this coming Saturday morning!

> We will get back to removing the last of the rich soil from the area close to the platform in preparation for planting in the fall. Further clearing and removal of vegetation from the NW area will be completed. Weeding and lowering high areas of the bog will also be tackled.
